Love or hate his policies, there is widespread agreement that Barack Obama has shown a mastery of political rhetoric. These ten contributions, mostly by professors of English or communications look at addresses he made both at home and abroad. Specific addresses covered include the A More Perfect Union response to the fallout over quotes by his former pastor Jeremiah Wright; The December 2009 address at West Point about his coming plans for Afghanistan; and his June 2009 Cairo speech that directly addressed the Muslim world. Analysis of Obama's use of rhetoric in speeches and addresses is limited to those that took place during the initial campaign and his first term.
