The Cross and the Lynching Tree

Examines the similarities between the crucifixion of Jesus and the lynching of African Americans, particularly in the Jim Crow era; discusses the views of twentieth century Christians, including Reinhold Neibuhr and Martin Luther King, Jr.; and encourages Christians to keep the role of the lynching tree in the Black experience in mind as a guide to understanding the teaching of Jesus about the poor and the suffering.
