Gallagher (philosophy and cognitive sciences, U. of Central Florida and U. of Herfordshire, England) insists that he was not planning a book when he interviewed neuroscientists and neuropsychologists about how the current understanding of the brain can contribute to solving philosophical problems about the mind. It was his pondering afterwards on what they said that inspired the volume. Indeed though he quotes, sometimes extensively, from the interviews, those jewels are embedded within his own narrative, which includes how to study the mind, movement, consciousness, inter-subjectivity, emotion and empathy, self and self-consciousness, and free will and moral responsibility.
