§16§This book initially describes the existence of kampung in the centre of Jakarta and the most prominent strategy to tackle in the past-KIP (Kampung Improvement Program)- with its shortcomings. Then, the book elaborates the concept of land readjustment in general and examines the practice of land readjustment in Germany and Japan as references for possible application in Jakarta. Lessons learnt are taken from both countries experiences and ultimately put forward a model of potential application for kampung upgrading in Jakarta.
