Amir Nave's work oscillates between drawing, painting,and sculpture. He focuses on the human being, whichhe executes in an obsessive, spiritual, or even mysticalmanner. His "creatures" are figures sometimes depictedas a body, a head, or an entity. They draw on deeply buriedpasts as well as possible futures. Even if some ofhis works are reminiscent of classics of art history andmythology, Nave refutes the idea of a painterly representationof life. In his take on the story of Moharamia,the artist tells of a revelation that appeared to themortal Moharamia at the River of Jordan. Through hisdrawings, paintings, and the sculptural form he has constructed,he renders this tale into a reflection on occultism,the supernatural, and metaphysical questions. AMIR NAVE (*1974, in Be'er Sheva, Israel) is a self-taught artist based in Tel Aviv and Paris. His works are part of the collections of the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, Galerie In Situ-Fabienne Leclerc in Paris, and the Collections of the Centre Pompidou, Paris, among others. In 2024, he won the prestigious Drawing Prize of the Daniel and Florence Guerlain Foundation.
