Brill's Companion to the Reception of Xenophon traces the legacy of this student of Socrates and classical author from his own times to the present day — starting from Xenophon's reception in Greek and Roman antiquity, through appropriations and transmission of his writings from late Antiquity to early Modernity, into the political, literary, and cultural influence of his works in European Renaissance traditions and early Modern political thought, and the place of Xenophon's Socrates in the history of political philosophy. This Companion thus reveals Xenophon's writings to have an exceptional legacy and is an indispensable guide for classical scholars, students, and informed readers seeking to understand how Xenophon's enduring presence has shaped our intellectual and philosophical inheritance.
