Making Mindanao : Cotabato and Davao in the Formation of the Philippine Nation-State

During the 1970s southern Mindanao was the battleground of two major rebellions. Standard explanations for these rebellions point to a combination of ethnic disputes and demographic changes. This title argues that colonial construction of the state shaped Mindanao's political landscape.
