Collective Identities : A Personal Journey to Leadership, Equity, Advocacy, and Development

Collective Identities: A Personal Journey to Leadership, Equity, Advocacy, and Development invites readers to explore the multifaceted aspects of personal and collective identity through a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) lens. The book begins by challenging individuals to confront their self-perception and consider the potential disparity between how they view themselves versus how others may perceive them. It lays a foundation for understanding personal identity and its interaction with societal perceptions influenced by various factors such as politics, economics, and media. The structure of the book fosters personal brand creation, enabling individuals to assert control over their narrative and distinguish their uniqueness. It addresses intergroup dynamics, including environmental assessments, boundary setting, cultural influence, relationship development, and networking. Further, the text provides extensive frameworks for DEI in organizational settings, ensuring fairness, inclusion, and engagement, and explores the critical role of human resources in balancing corporate interests with employee advocacy. It concludes with actionable plans for personal and organizational growth, underscoring a holistic view of identity development within the context of larger social constructs. Collective Identities is designed to support an action-oriented learning experience, making it suitable for college courses in social sciences, DEI studies, human resources, organizational development, and leadership training at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
